[http://www.flickr.com/photos/neap_tide] Okay, the counter wheel is the silver wheel in the middle with numbers on it. It's not important except to keep track of how much film you have left and the camera works without it. Do you mean the advance wheel? The advance wheel is the black plastic wheel and it should be stopping on its own at the end of each frame, that's how you keep photos from overlapping. If you don't let it reach the stopping point and cock the shutter, it will overlap/double expose. If it doesn't stop there might be something wrong with the camera. The manual really explains the order of things pretty clearly. :)

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/neap_tide] You have to manually set it to 0 when you load the film. I usually forget or it gets knocked off the correct count at some point later, but as long as you keep winding until it stops you for the next frame, there shouldn't be overlap. So. Take a shot, wind the advance wheel until it stops and take another shot and there shouldn't be overlap, except maybe on the last shot if your counter is off and you can't advance a full frame. I hope this helps! If not, you can get the manual for the camera from a link at the bottom of this page. :)

Hi Rachel,

I hope you don't mind that we have used this great photo as the homepage image for our photography project The Alternative Photo Agency, at a contemporary art space called CIC in Cairo. We've put full credit to you on the image details and linked to the CC licence you are using. You can see it in use here: alternativephotoagency.wordpress.com/ and you can learn more about CIC here: ciccairo.com/ie/

As soon as our workshops are under way we will generate our own photos for the blog... I hope this is ok in the meantime. Please email alternative.photo.agency@gmail.com if you prefer us not to use.

Many thanks! Mia

I think a SLR would feel more natural to me, since that is what I had for so many years. I miss having complete control over the exposure settings. I also think that the lenses are superior to the ones in the small, pocket-sized cameras.

Marty's Mac is way more than we needed, but it is nice to have it. My PC notebook is out of date now. It is a little slow when I am uploading photos from my camera, but I can live with it for now.

Always wanting the next step up, aren't we? ;-) For example, I find myself continually wanting a Mac Pro tower.

Actually, I'm wondering about a digital SLR myself, but I'm not going to spend that much money when I barely use the digital model I have now. A former coworker bought a digital SLR (or something that looked like one) for a hefty sum of money in about 2001. I was allowed to inspect it for a few minutes. It seemed awfully complicated.

[Update 03/24/2011: I now know that a 2001 model DSLR was probably a lot more complicated than a 2010-2011 DSLR.]
